Description
PERMA-HAND™ Suture, Size 0, Black, 6 x 30", is a nonabsorbable, sterile surgical suture composed of silk, a natural organic protein derived from the silkworm Bombyx mori. The silk fibers are specially treated to remove natural waxes and gums, resulting in a purified suture material suitable for use in various surgical procedures requiring soft tissue approximation.
The suture is braided to enhance strength and flexibility, providing reliable knot security and excellent handling properties. A proprietary wax coating is applied to the braid, acting as a lubricant to improve the suture’s physical behavior during manipulation. This coating reduces friction, enhances smooth passage through tissue, and improves control while tying knots.
Despite being nonabsorbable, silk sutures like PERMA-HAND™ are known to gradually lose tensile strength over time. However, they maintain their functional integrity long enough to support wound healing in tissues that require temporary but extended closure. The black coloration improves visibility in the operative field for enhanced precision.
